Big Levels Off-Road

Awesome trip to a beautiful trail in Virginia

On a beautiful spring say I was priveledged to join Andrew and Cherie from HobbyTrap and the CORE 4x4 club on an off-road trip to Big Levels in Virginia.

It was my first time out there, and we had gotten a heads up that parts of the trail are often overgrown, and can cause “pinstriping”, or scratches down the sides of the vehicles as they push through the dense foliage. In prep for this, I installed these magnetic body armor panels on the sides of the jeep. They worked amazingly well, and I’m so glad I got them! I know that my Jeep is a Jeep, and that it should be able to handle getting a few scratches on trail, but if a few bucks can keep it nice looking for years to come, why not!

Onto the trail. In a word, amazing! We started out on this long dusty road (lesson learned, close the top and windows on dusty roads, or spend hours at home washing the interior to get it all out). After that, we turned onto the trail, and were greeted by amazing views, fun obstacles, and great company.

We had two recoveries that needed to be made. The first, a Toyota Tundra in our convoy got high-centered, and we used my winch to pull it off, with the help of Andrew’s hi-lift jack. The second time, we used a snatch strap hooked up to my front bumper to pull the Tundra out of a mud hole it had gotten stuck in.

All in all, a super fun trip that I’m very much looking forward to going on again!
